Plant-eating dinosaurs did not eat grass, because there wasn't any, so it is thought. During the Mesozoic Era, when the dinosaurs lived, conifers - cone-bearing trees and shrubs - dominated the landscape. They included redwoods, yews, pines, palms, cypress and the monkey puzzle tree. Flowering plants and grass evolved only later.
By the way, a plant does not look like its parents, but will always resemble its grandparents
East Lawn Avenue is one of the most heavily traveled residential streets on the east end of Urbana. During the course of a normal day, traffic can be extremely frustrating and at times almost overwhelming for residents of the area.
Preliminary work preparing for the reconstruction has been ongoing for some time but the serious reconstruction work is slated to begin on Monday June 2nd, 2008. City officials indicate the work is scheduled to occur in three phases. Work will begin at Bloomfield Ave and progress south to Scioto Street with an anticipated completion date of November 1st, 2008.
Phase 1 will result in the closure of East Lawn Ave from Bloomfield Ave to Boyce Street.
Phase 2 will close the street from Boyce Street to Washington Ave.
Phase 3 will have East Lawn Ave closed from Washington Street to Scioto Street.
Sidewalks, curbs, and gutters will also included in the reconstruction. The final layer of asphalt to the entire project area will not be applied until the end of the construction.
During the construction, the recommended route to enter Melvin Miller Park will be via the Children's Home Road entrance.
Not all residents of the effected area are pleased with the project. Some residents along the street currently have very little buffer space between the street and the house. The end result of the reconstruction will reduce that space even further, resulting in vehicular traffic dangerously close to their residence and further reducing the marketability (and value) of their property.
